As of Nū is a radical design practice that reimagines fashion through embodied and ethnographic research methods. Research and design are inseparable: research informs design, and design itself becomes a source of research. Our projects aim to turn the monologue of the fashion industry into a dialogue with wearers, encouraging a more intrinsic sustainable mindset.

We believe everyone is a practitioner of fashion. We all engage with it through its materiality and ephemerality, through patterns of making, wearing, mending, treasuring, and discarding. Yet within the current fashion system, the designer, the brand, the label is elevated above the wearer, who is reduced to a passive consumer. This hierarchy alienates us from garments, stripping them of their emotional value and obscuring the labour and resources behind them. Consequently, fashion becomes increasingly easy to consume, yet difficult to truly connect with. Rebuilding this material and emotional bond is essential if we are to cultivate a more humane and sustainable fashion culture.

To truly rethink the system, we must empower both the maker and the wearer. Each should be equally present in shaping the debates around this ever-evolving cultural and social phenomenon.
As of Nū develops tools that foster reflection and help dismantle harmful systems. We ask how habits can shift to serve a shared future that extends beyond human concerns and nurtures wellbeing for all forms of life. We bring together makers, wearers, producers, and menders to co-create a collective practice of fashion.

Fashion trends are the old becoming new, and the new becoming old — an archival rhythm of perpetual renewal, driven by a hierarchical distribution mechanism.

But what about the now?
What about what we already own?

Let’s change the system.
As of Nū.
